The High Line is a public park built on an historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. It is owned by the City of New York, and maintained and operated by Friends of the High Line. Founded in 1999 by community residents, Friends of the High Line fought for the High Line’s preservation and transformation at a time when the historic structure was under the threat of demolition. It is now the non-profit conservancy working with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to make sure the High Line is maintained as an extraordinary public space for all visitors to enjoy. In addition to overseeing maintenance, operations, and public programming for the park, Friends of the High Line works to raise the essential private funds to support more than 90 percent of the park’s annual operating budget, and to advocate for the preservation and transformation of the High Line at the Rail Yards, the third and final section of the historic structure, which runs between West 30th and West 34th Streets.

The High Line is located on Manhattan’s West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. The first section of the High Line opened on June 9, 2009. It runs from Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street. The second section, which runs between West 20th and West 30th Streets, opened June 8, 2011.

March is the month for Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

The music that we call jazz was born around the year 1895 in New Orleans. It brought together the elements of Ragtime, marching band music, and the Blues. What made Jazz different from the other earlier forms of music was the use of improvisation. Jazz represented a break from tradition music where a composer wrote an entire piece of music on paper, leaving the musicians to break their backs playing exactly what was written on the score. In a Jazz piece, however, the song is simply a starting point, or sort of a starting point for the Jazz musicians to improvise around. The song being played may have been popular and well-known that the musicians themselves didn’t compose, but once they had finished, the

Jazz Musicians had more or less written a new piece of music that bore little resemblance to the original piece. Actually, many of these early musicians were bad sight readers and some couldn’t even read music at all. Regardless, their superb playing amazed audiences and the upbeat music they played was a different but well-liked escape from the traditional music of that time.

The first Jazz is thought to have been played by African Americans and Creole musicians in New Orleans. Buddy Bolden, a cornet player, is generally considered to be the first real jazz musician, possessing an incredible sound. Other early players of the time included Freddie Keppard, Bunk Johnson, and Clarence Williams. Most of these musicians may seen unknown to most people, their ideas are still affecting the way Jazz is being played today. Generally these early musicians could not make very much money and were stuck working menial jobs to make a living. The second wave of New Orleans Jazz musicians include such players as Joe Oliver, Kid Ory, and Jelly Roll Morton. These men formed small bands and took the music of earlier musicians, improved its complexity, and gained greater success. This music is known as “Hot Jazz” due to the enormously fast speeds.

A young cornet player by the name of Louis Armstrong was discovered by Joe Oliver in New Orleans. He soon grew to become one of the greatest and most successful musicians of all time, and later one of the biggest stars in the world. The impact of Armstrong and other early Jazz musicians changed the way we look at music, and their work will forever be studied and admired.

Now is the perfect time to visit The Metropolitan Museum of Art

New and exciting things are happening at the museum starting with the opening of the New American Wing. The Metropolitan Museum’s collection of American art, one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world, returned to view in expanded, reconceived, and dramatic new galleries on January 16, 2012, when the Museum inaugurated the New American Wing Galleries for Paintings, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts. The new installation provides visitors with a rich and captivating experience of the history of American art from the eighteenth through the early twentieth century. The suite of elegant new galleries encompasses 30,000 square feet for the display of the Museum’s superb collection.

Also showing at the museum is the wonderful exhibit The Steins Collect.
Gertrude Stein, her brothers Leo and Michael, and Michael’s wife Sarah were important patrons of modern art in Paris during the first decades of the twentieth century. This exhibition unites some two hundred works of art to demonstrate the significant impact the Steins’ patronage had on the artists of their day and the way in which the family disseminated a new standard of taste for modern art. The Steins’ Saturday evening salons introduced a generation of visitors to recent developments in art, particularly the work of their close friends Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, long before it was on view in museums.

Beginning with the art that Leo Stein collected when he arrived in Paris in 1903—including paintings and prints by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Édouard Manet, and Auguste Renoir—the exhibition traces the evolution of the Steins’ taste and examines the close relationships formed between individual members of the family and their artist friends. While focusing on works by Matisse and Picasso, the exhibition also includes paintings, sculpture, and works on paper by Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Juan Gris, Marie Laurencin, Jacques Lipchitz, Henri Manguin, André Masson, Elie Nadelman, Francis Picabia, and others.

There is so much to see and do at the Museum for adults and children alike. And if the Metropolitan is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other Museum’s in New York City to visit.

Limo Express offers a luxurious fleet of late model Lincoln Town Car L-series sedans, Chevy Suburban SUV’s, Ford E-series vans and Turtle Top vans along with a variety of 6 or 8 passenger Lincoln Town Car Stretched Limousines to accommodate a party of any size.

But few St. Patrick’s Day revelers have a clue about St. Patrick.

Who Was the Man Behind St. Patrick’s Day?

For starters, the real St. Patrick wasn’t even Irish. He was born in Britain around A.D. 390 to an aristocratic Christian family with a townhouse, a country villa, and plenty of slaves.

What’s more, Patrick professed no interest in Christianity as a young boy.

At 16, Patrick’s world turned: He was kidnapped and sent overseas to tend sheep as a slave in the chilly, mountainous countryside of Ireland for seven years.

According to folklore, a voice came to Patrick in his dreams, telling him to escape. He found passage on a pirate ship back to Britain, where he was reunited with his family.

The voice then told him to go back to Ireland.

He then gets ordained as a priest from a bishop, and goes back and spends the rest of his life trying to convert the Irish to Christianity.

Patrick’s work in Ireland was tough—he was constantly beaten by thugs, harassed by the Irish royalty, and admonished by his British superiors. After he died on March 17, 461, Patrick was largely forgotten.

But slowly, mythology grew around Patrick, and centuries later he was honored as the patron saint of Ireland.

Join in the celebration of all things Irish at the annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the world’s largest. The parade, which marches up Fifth Avenue, starting at 44th Street at 11am, draws more than 200,000 participants (and two million onlookers). This year the parade will take place on Saturday March 17th.

Limo Express specializes in transportation to and from New York City. Allow us to provide you, your family and friends with reliable service and a designated driver to the St. Patricks Day Parade and all the festivities that follow.

No trip to the New York City metropolitan area would be complete without a visit to the Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, a true national landmark recognized around the globe as a symbol of the United States of America.

Limo Express proudly offers a number of patriotic transportation packages to the historic Gateway site including Gift Certificates available for any denomination, a perfect gift to friends and colleagues. Call us at 800.221.2345 for details and reservations.

Ellis Island, accessible by car or limousine with special permission that can be arranged through the United States Park Police or the National Park Service, or more commonly accessed by a ferry boat or helicopter for an aerial tour, is a phenomenal place to visit for tourists and locals alike. Over twelve million people entered the US through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954 whose names are etched in history on numerous columns located on the island. The Immigration Museum offers a detailed look at the way the processing was done and the gift shop allows you to take a piece of the history home with you as a souvenir. The tiny 3.3 acre island that it was back then has been expanded to over 27 acres over time, using the land excavated from the development of lower Manhattan and the NYC subway system, a spectacle you must experience!

The Statue of Liberty is accessible by ferry boat or helicopter and offers an enlightening view of an engineering marvel. Designed by sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi as a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States of America, the statue towers over 305 feet from the ground, high into the sky contributing nicely to the beautiful skyline of the New York City. We highly recommend touring the Lady Liberty both by the ferry and the helicopter, as you will be able to view the statue up close and personal utilizing their promenade and observatory tours, enjoy the museum in the pedestal and walk up the monument from within, while in the helicopter you can get a birds-eye view of the statue and its exterior giving you a complete view of this amazing work of art that stands for many things that symbolize the USA but most importantly: Freedom.

Limo Express will happily transport you from any destination to the ferry piers or the heliport for your Statue of Liberty visit. Our chauffeurs will then wait for your return and transport you to dinner or any other destination in New Jersey or New York City for an ultimate sightseeing experience. We offer a variety of vehicles from our luxury Lincoln Town Car L-series to the elite Mercedes-Benz S-class sedans, from our prestigious Chevrolet Suburban luxury SUV’s to the spacious Ford Turtle Top limo vans and of course a choice of stretch, ultra and super stretch luxury Lincoln Town Car limousines.
Its sidewalk dining season in New York City metropolitan area again and we invite you to go out on the town, taking advantage of the beautiful weather and having some of the best food NY has to offer under the open sky. Limo Express specializes in restaurant transportation from a quick point-to-point trip to the city to a night-on-the-town. We also offer gift cards as a perfect gift for anyone you deem deserving, that could be put to great use with a trip to an al fresco restaurant in New York or New Jersey.

Al fresco dining is very popular throughout the world but few places can compare to the atmosphere only the Big Apple has to offer. And as diverse as New York is so are the dining locations around town. From rooftop dining to sidewalk café’s, to cozy little places on the pier overlooking the marina, we’ve got it all! The location is only the start to this NYC adventure, the food selection is mindboggling. Whether you’re in the mood for traditional American, authentic Italian or exotic Japanese, you will definitely find it in Manhattan and beyond.

Sidewalk
Ocean Grill: (212)579-2300
384 Columbus Ave, NYC

Rooftop
Sushi Samba: (212)691-7885
87 7th Avenue, NYC

Garden
Va Tutto: (212)941-0286
23 Cleveland Place, NYC

Marina
Chelsea Brewing Company: (212)336-6440
Chelsea Piers, Pier 59 23rd Street, NYC

Mezzanine
Blue Water Grill: (212)675-9500
31 Union Square West at 16th Street, NYC

Not to be outdone, New Jersey too has much to offer in terms of open-air enjoyment. In the neighboring Englewood Cliffs, Cafe Italiano Ristorante specializes in al fresco dining, so does Oceanos in Fair Lawn, as well as many other towns from Northern New Jersey all the way down the Jersey Shore in Cape May. The possibilities are endless and best of all delicious! We are happy to transport you to any of them on a moments notice. Be sure to enjoy everything the restaurants have to offer and leave the getting there part to us, we will provide a designated driver knowledgeable in the area to get you to your destination in a safe and relaxing manner.

Other popular Englewood Cliffs restaurants include:

Cafe Italiano Ristorante: (201)461-5041
14 Sylvan Avenue

Su Yong San: (201)871-0555
464 Sylvan Avenue

Assembly Steakhouse: (201)568-2616
495 Sylvan Avenue

Grissini Trattoria: (201)568-3535
484 Sylvan Avenue

The Bicycle Club: (201)567-3845
487 Sylvan Avenue

Popular Englewood, New Jersey Restaurants:

Solaia Restaurant: (201)871-7155
22 North Van Brunt Street

Smoke Chophouse & Cigar Emporium: (201)541-8530
36 Engle Street

Wild Ginger: (201)567-2660
6 East Palisade Avenue

Blueside Grill: (201)871-1170
126 Engle Street

Saigon R.: (201)871-4777
58 West Palisade Avenue

Tapas de Espana: (201)569-9999
47 North Dean Street

Baumgart’s Café: (201)569-6267
45 East Palisade Avenue

Blue Moon Mexican Cafe: (201)541-0600
21 East Palisade Avenue

a perfect spot to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!!! and many more…

Limo Express offers a luxurious fleet of late model Lincoln Town Car L-series sedans, Mercedes-Benz S-class sedans, Chevy Suburban SUV’s, Ford E-series vans and Turtle Top vans along with a variety of 6 or 8 passenger Lincoln Town Car Stretched Limousines to accommodate a party of any size.
